GENERAL INFORMATION
about our Dome Mirrors |
|
Dome mirrors provide the widest possible viewing area.
They are
most popular for viewing "traffic" and preventing accidents at intersecting hallways and
aisles, blind corners, entrances and exits. (See illustrations
above).
Some of their other uses include: monitoring assembly
lines and production machinery, or used as a deterrent to pilferage and
vandalism.
We have three styles of Dome
Mirrors available:
* Surveillance
Drop-in Domes can also be used for this application, and are described separately on our
Surveillance
page.
Because of their ability to provide a wider angle of viewing but
provide less
detail, a good
starting point for determining the size for your mirrored Domes is to use a
size-ratio of 2-inches per each 1-foot of viewing distance; i.e. use an
32-inch Dome mirror for viewing 16 feet of distance. This will afford you
both a larger viewing area and greater detail.
Backing Materials — These Domes come with either
...
 | No Backing — In almost all cases, mirrored Domes are
used indoors and require no backing. They can be attached
directly to a wall or ceiling using the mounting holes drilled in
its perimeter flange. They can also be hung from very high ceilings with
light-weight chain or ¼" nylon cord (available at any hardware store).
|
 | Hardboard Backing — Because they are hollow, they are designed for indoor use.
They can be used
outdoors, but only under an overhang or other protective covering.
The backing covers only one side of the 90° and 180° Domes; The opening in
a 360° Dome is completely covered with backing, although there is seldom
any need for backing.
|
 | Steel Backing — Again, because they are
hollow, they are designed for indoor use. They can be used
outdoors, but only under an overhang or other protective covering.
The backing is made of heavy-duty, 20-gauge galvanized steel,
although there is seldom any need for backing. |
