GENERAL INFORMATION
about our Convex Mirrors

USES — Ideal for blind spots, hidden corners, stores of every type, parking lots and garages, street, road and alley intersections, driveways, drive-up or drive-thru windows, hospitals, nursing homes, child care centers, schools, factories, manufacturing, warehouse, loading docks, industrial and commercial use; shoplifting, theft and vandalism prevention and much more.

Mounting — All of our Convex mirrors [(Round) or Roundtangular (this page)] come with either a "J", "Z" or a Telescoping  mounting bracket and a swivel arm for unlimited adjustment of the viewing angle.
            Screws for each mirror can be SLIGHTLY loosened, then re-tightened after achieving the angle you desire.

Glass vs. Acrylic — Acrylic Mirrors are, by far, the most popular choice of our customers. Most agree that Acrylic offers a better reflection quality than Glass. Tempered and Laminated glass have less reflection qualities and are no longer used by us.

          In active areas, where the mirror could be broken, Acrylic mirrors are suggested as they are least likely to break. They have minimal danger of injuring anyone from broken pieces, as opposed to the razor-sharp shards caused by broken Glass mirrors.

          Glass Mirrors should be used in areas where they are mounted high enough to avoid breakage, or do not violate OSHA regulations, or where safety is not a major concern. 
          Glass cleaners work fine on Glass mirrors but, do not use a glass cleaner on Acrylic mirrors!  Acrylic mirrors should be cleaned with a soft cloth and very mild soap or Lemon Pledge™. There are also other products available on the market specifically designed to clean Acrylic.

          In the outdoors, Acrylic is less susceptible to water spots than glass and, therefore, requires less cleaning which, in turn, can reduce your maintenance cost.

Backing Materials — For indoor use, any backing material will serve you well for a very long time. Cost may be your determining factor. 

          For outdoor use, our non-rusting backing material is suitable. For outdoor use in severe weather conditions, our 20-gauge galvanized steel backing is suggested.
 

Style — Both the Circular (Round) and Roundtangular models work equally well for viewing either to the left or the right — but not both; that would require two mirrors.

         Our Rectangular Convex Mirrors  seem to be the preferred style by most customers because they do not reflect as much of an overhead sky or sun. Another advantage is: you can get the viewing distance of a larger mirror without its larger size ... 2 of its edges are "clipped off." For example: The 18" dimension of 12" x 18" Roundtangular mirror can give you the same viewing qualities as an 18" Round mirror. This is especially helpful where there is a low overhead ceiling, as in a Parking Garage.

           Their shape makes them ideal for mounting on low surfaces up to 10 feet high.  In addition, many feel it has a more attractive appearance.
         

Size — For Convex mirrors, you can usually figure a ratio of 1-inch for every foot of viewing distance. Therefore, a 12-inch mirror is recommended for 12 feet distance viewing. Your distance from the mirror PLUS the distance to the object should figure into your calculation.
          SUGGESTION: Cut a piece of cardboard the size of the mirror you are considering and see if you feel comfortable with it. You can even cover it with aluminum foil to create a mirror effect.
